HOW TO AVOID FACEBOOK-INDUCED DEPRESSION

Given that Facebook have 1.79 billion monthly active users, there is no doubt that it is a popular social platform. The irony of Facebook - a platform designed to make us more sociable - is that the site has been linked to depression - a condition that can result in withdrawal and social isolation. Is it possible to avoid "Facebook depression"?

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) proposed the existence of Facebook depression in 2011. They defined the condition as: "Depression that develops when preteens and teens spend a great deal of time on social media sites, such as Facebook, and then begin to exhibit classic symptoms of depression."

While the AAP received some criticism from those who argued that their claims were not adequately supported, previous research has suggested that using Facebook is linked to several mental healthconsequences, including depression, low self-esteem, and jealousy.

Low moods and depressive symptoms appear to go hand-in-hand with Facebook use, but one of the triggering factors seems to be "social comparison."

NOVEL PENILE IMPLANT OFFERS HOPE FOR MEN WITH ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

Although implants and medication are available for individuals who have lost erectile function, there is currently no one-size-fits-all treatment. However, using an innovative heat-activated memory metal, researchers recently tested a new device and the results are promising.

Although technology related to the penis can draw childish sniggers, it is a serious business.

For instance, losing one's erectile function through cancer or injury can be a life-altering event.

Erectile dysfunction is not uncommon; an estimated 40 percent of men aged 40-70 have some level of erectile dysfunction.

Of these 40 percent, an estimated one-third do not respond to drugs such as Viagra.

Brian Le, from the Department of Urology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, recently investigated new technology that may, eventually, provide a reliable alternative.

PRODUZIONE INDUSTRIALE DI CANNABIS FM-2 AD USO MEDICO, PRIMI LOTTI

Sono in commercio i primi lotti di Cannabis FM-2 prodotta dallo Stabilimento chimico farmaceutico militare di Firenze in applicazione dell’accordo di collaborazione tra il Ministro della salute e il Ministro della difesa firmato il 18 settembre 2014.

La distribuzione è destinata alle farmacie per l'allestimento di preparazioni magistrali a base di cannabis FM-2 dietro presentazione di prescrizione medica non ripetibile.

Il prodotto Cannabis FM-2 (contenente THC 5% - 8% e CBD 7,5% - 12%), è la prima sostanza attiva a base di cannabis prodotta in Italia in conformità alle direttive europee in materia di medicinali (EU - GMP) su processo produttivo depositato e controllato, in una officina farmaceutica autorizzata dall’AIFA e la cui distribuzione è autorizzata dall’Organismo statale per la cannabis presso il Ministero della salute.

La prescrizione di cannabis ad uso medico in Italia riguarda (DM 9/11/2015) l'impiego nel dolore cronico e di quello associato a sclerosi multipla e a lesioni del midollo spinale; nella nausea e vomito causati da chemioterapia, radioterapia, terapie per HIV; come stimolante dell’appetito nella cachessia, anoressia, perdita dell’appetito in pazienti oncologici o affetti da AIDS e nell’anoressia nervosa; l’effetto ipotensivo nel glaucoma; la riduzione dei movimenti involontari del corpo e facciali nella sindrome di Gilles de la Tourette.

Le prescrizioni si effettuano quando le terapie convenzionali o standard sono inefficaci. Sono disponibili informazioni per i medici e farmacisti e istruzioni per la preparazione del decotto.

L’inizio della commercializzazione è stato notificato alle Regioni e PPAA, con nota del 14 dicembre 2016.
